The Harbour
Acrylic on board
40cm x 40cm
This is a painting that has taken a long while to resolve. It’s about the memory of returning to a small harbour in an open boat and feeling the mass and security of the granite wall at its entrance. It was a powerful experience, and made me realise the divide between the security of home and the exposure of the sea. The painting tries to show this feeling – if you go to the right you are safe, if you turn left you are ‘outside’ – no negotiation, no in-between!
