This painting is about Venn Lane in Plymouth, a small path around some allotments in Plymouth’s Central Park – very ordinary, very everyday. But when I walked past on a sultry June evening every leaf and stem seemed to be pushing up from the earth with a vengeance. I realised that tending an allotment might not be about keeping things growing, but might be more about holding nature back! I could almost see the hedgerow’s chaotic abundance taking over as I peered through it towards the tidy rows of domestic produce
